Skiing in Whitefish, Montana: A Winter Wonderland

At 5 years old, I first learned to ski on Whitefish Mountain. Located next to Glacier National Park Montana, the resort is a hidden gem for winter sports enthusiasts. Also known as The Big, with its powder-filled slopes, friendly atmosphere and stunning views of Big Sky Country. Whitefish Mountain has over 3,000 acres of terrain.

If you’re fit and strong on your skis, it helps to know a few simple routes away from the groomers. There are a few quick inbound hikes that are worth checking out if you’re up for it. Hiking to the radio towers at the summit of Big Mountain is one of the most obvious choices — just hang a left off Chair 1 and follow the cat track up the hill. Another great hiking option is Lodi Ridge, located at the top of Bigfoot T-bar.

Big Face is particularly popular among thrill-seekers for deep powder and sloped terrain while the resort’s summit offers panoramic views of the Flathead Valley and Glacier National Park. Consistently chosen as one of the United States’ best resorts by Ski Magazine, Whitefish Mountain remains one of my favorite winter destinations.
